The adoption books and classes will give you a great tool set for adoptive parenting. But remember at the core. Your adopted child is still a human. Just a little rad, as in an amazing spark of life, human. I came across this video and well it explains itself.
"Gotcha Day" Should Only Be Used For Puppies And Kittens
I remember the first time I heard the term "Gotcha Day". My mouth dropped, and I felt like I needed to take a hot shower. Just say NO! Save "Gotcha Day" for puppies and kittens, not for a child. There are way better ways to celebrate the family moment, and probably a thousand better words for your celebration. If you choose to have one. I do not.
Yes "Gotcha Day" is a real thing
Most Asked Question ... Ever
I recently connected with MLJ Adoptions, Inc., an Indianapolis based agency focused on International adoptions, to join a panel to talk to couples in their stage of adoption. I have not had an opportunity to talk to future parents about their adoption journey for some time, so I was really looking forward to it.
The whole intent is to offer future parents my experience and perspective. Sometimes it is not all "touchy feel-y", but it is real. That's what future parents want. There are some really awesome and unique opportunities, but there are also struggles. The struggles are real.
I have spoken to a handful of people and also one-to-one with couples. There is always a question that gets asked, so I decided to kick off the first post with getting that out of the way.

Happy National Adoption Month!
Hello. My name is Jeremiah Williams and I was adopted. It is not all that I am, but it is a part. I have had opportunities over the past 30 years to answer a range of questions about adoption. I decided that national Adoption Month, was the perfect time to launch this idea. Adoption blogs are not a unique idea, trust me I Googled it. I am just here to share my perspective, experience, and answer your questions from my experience. That being said, the main component of this is to answer YOUR questions. No questions or judgement. You ask and I will get to answering it. Just fill out the form on the side of the blog.
Trust me when I say there is nothing off limits, and I am pretty sure you are not the only one wondering.
Get to asking. I need to know what you need me to talk about.
